Universities
Among Skåne’s Universities is the ancient University of Lund, founded in 1666, which is actually Scandinavias’s largest campus for research and higher education.
Malmö University is, by contrast, one of Sweden's newest higher education initiatives. It currently accommodates about 18,000 students and is growing rapidly.
Kristianstad University, in the Northeast of Skåne is a smaller institution specializing in engineering, human, social, natural, behavioural and health sciences, and business administration.
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) with its main campus in Alnarp, has three faculties: 1. Agriculture, Landscape Planning and Horticulture. 2.Forestry and 3. Veterinary Medicine.
Research strengths
All together, the Öresund Region which includes Greater Copenhagen, boasts 135,000 students, 12 universities and 10,000 scientists. Among the region’s best known scientific networks are the Medicon Valley Alliance, Öresund IT, Öresund Food and Öresund Environment.
Moreover, the region leads the world in both marine and water biology and orthopaedics research; it is second largest in civil engineering, environmental sciences, ergonomics, otorhinolaryngologics, nuclear physics and public health.
